    Case study: Einfamilienhaus-Haus

While nearly two million housing units sit vacant across Germany, major cities face a deficit of nearly two million affordable homes. Germany does not lack housing; its housing stock is simply in the wrong place.

Platten-Bau explores this imbalance by treating vacant prefabricated housing as a material reservoir for new urban housing. Instead of demolishing WBS 70 buildings, the project investigates how existing concrete elements can be dismantled, transported and reassembled where housing is needed.Combined with bio-based construction systems, the reused components form new configurations, tested through mapping, deconstruction studies, connection details and a 1:1 prototype.
